A solution that smartly monitors the health of sewage lines using the Internet of Things.

The problem Manhole monitoring system solves

The project aims to create a system for smart monitoring of these sewage lines to reduce the deaths and help in better disaster control. We generally tend to ignore the important part of our underground drainage systems and cleaners play in maintaining our cities!

The objectives we aim to achieve with this system are -

  1. Monitor the real-time status of manholes within the city. The factors here which we shall monitoring here are temperature,
    humidity, lid status, Methane content, the water level of the manhole
  2. To provide necessary user alerts on the basis of real-time manhole status
  3. Predict overflow of manholes to help in disaster management
  4. Real-time manhole locations with open lids

Challenges we ran into

Challenges we faced -

  1. Calibration of Gas sensor: We resolved it by studying the behavior of methane gas from the datasheet and providing the correct slope and resistance values
  2. Reading data from load cell: This sensor requires a balanced mounting and stand for accurate data
  3. Creating the dashboard with embedded data from the cloud: Learned about iframes embedded in plain HTML from thingspeak cloud
  4. Integrating all sensors together: This is a great challenge even now or us, after successfully integrating 2 sensors together, we are working on adding the analog sensors in the future
