The Problem It Solves
The Campus Lost & Found App addresses the common issue of lost or misplaced items on campus. Students, faculty, and staff often face the frustration of losing valuable items such as ID cards, wallets, books, or gadgets. Traditional methods of searching like posting notices on bulletin boards or sending messages in groups are inefficient, time-consuming, and prone to being overlooked.
This app solves these problems by:
Centralizing lost & found items: All lost and found reports are stored in a single, easily accessible platform.
Quick matching of items: Users can quickly see if an item has already been reported lost or found, saving time.
Secure access: Only the owner of an item can mark it as returned, reducing misuse.
Notifications and updates: Users can receive alerts when an item matching their lost report is found.
Reducing stress and uncertainty: Instead of searching aimlessly, users have a structured, reliable way to recover lost items.
Use Cases:
A student loses their library ID card and can instantly check the app to see if it has been found.
Campus staff find a lost phone and report it through the app, helping return it to the rightful owner quickly.
Administrators can monitor lost and found activity to improve campus security and efficiency.
Challenges I ran into
While making the Campus Lost & Found App, I faced a few difficulties:
It was tricky to make sure only the person who owns an item can mark it as returned.
Designing the app so it looks nice but is still easy to use took a lot of trial and error.
Making filters and search work correctly so users can quickly find items was challenging.
Protecting users’ contact info while still allowing the owner to be contacted needed extra attention.
Testing everything and fixing bugs, especially with duplicate or wrong item entries, took more time than expected.
