The problem Locus solves

Locus solves the problem of not knowing where your time actually goes while working. It automatically tracks focused moments and everyday activity, then turns them into a clean visual timeline so users can understand their focus patterns instead of guessing. Unlike heavy or cloud-based productivity trackers, it runs efficiently in the background and works fully offline, keeping user data private on the local device.

Challenges I ran into

Some of the biggest challenges were accurately tracking user activity without impacting system performance, handling platform-specific system APIs, and presenting large amounts of timeline data in a way that remained intuitive and responsive. Another challenge was balancing detailed activity tracking with user privacy, which led to the decision to process and store data locally rather than relying on cloud services. These issues were addressed through careful optimization, efficient background processing, and iterative improvements to the visualization layer to ensure the application remained lightweight, accurate, and easy to use.
