The problem local.live solves
Challenges Solved by local.live
1. Lack of Centralized Event Discovery
- Challenge: People often struggle to find a single, reliable platform that aggregates local events.
- Solution: local.live serves as a one-stop hub for users to discover all types of events in their area, eliminating the need to search across multiple platforms or social media.
2. Limited Event Visibility for Organizers
- Challenge: Local event organizers, especially smaller ones, often have limited avenues to promote their events and reach the right audience.
- Solution: local.live provides an easy-to-use platform where anyone can post events, helping organizers increase visibility and attract a local audience.
3. Difficulty Finding Real-Time, Hyper-Local Events
- Challenge: Users may miss spontaneous or last-minute events happening in their immediate vicinity.
- Solution: The app allows real-time posting and updates of local events, giving users immediate access to what's happening around them through a map view and notifications.
4. Engagement with the Local Community
- Challenge: Despite living in vibrant communities, people may feel disconnected and unaware of events that could enhance their social life.
- Solution: By featuring local culture, live performances, and gatherings, local.live fosters community engagement and encourages users to connect with events and people in their locality.
5. Lack of Map Integration for Events
- Challenge: Many event platforms don’t effectively integrate maps, making it hard for users to visualize where events are happening.
- Solution: local.live’s map view allows users to see event locations at a glance, making it easier to plan their attendance based on proximity.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges Faced During the Design of local.live
1. Time Pressure and Extended Work Hours
We worked for 36 straight hours, which created physical and mental fatigue, making it harder to maintain focus and productivity as the hackathon progressed.
2. Complex Design Requirements
The design we envisioned for the app was intricate and required significant attention to detail. This added complexity made the design process take longer than anticipated.
3. Logo and Color Theme Selection
We spent a lot of time brainstorming and designing the logo, as well as choosing the right color theme for the app. This process involved multiple iterations to ensure the design reflected the app’s brand and purpose.
4. Prototyping Issues
We faced difficulties in the prototyping phase of the app. Aligning all the interactive elements and ensuring smooth transitions between screens took longer than expected, causing delays in the overall design process.
5. Balancing Design and Functionality
We had to find a balance between creating a visually appealing design and ensuring the app remained functional and user-friendly. The complexity of the design sometimes interfered with prototyping and usability considerations.
