The problem LeafLift solves

In the modern world, rising costs of living and growing concerns for the environment have brought to light the urgency of switching to sustainable modes of transportation. The prevalent environmental problems like air pollution, road congestion and carbon emissions prove that sustainable transport options such as carpooling are very essential. However, these existing carpooling apps have faced problems with user engagement which hampers their effectiveness in addressing environmental issues. Carpooling is an encouraging way forward in terms of cost savings, reduced traffic jams and low carbon emissions. Today’s ridesharing applications often suffer from a lack of users; thus producing driver-rider matching that is less than optimal. Additionally, some platforms also fail on trust and reliability fronts where safety issues like punctuality and usability come into play.

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring an intuitive and seamless user experience posed a significant challenge.Balancing functionality with simplicity required extensive user testing and design adjustments.Choosing the appropriate Map style that aligned with our project requirements was the initial challenge. We needed a map that seamlessly integrated with our web application and provided the flexibility to customize according to our needs.To achieve this, we utilized Microsoft Bing's Api, which allowed us to customize the map's appearance, including colors, labels, and markers, to match our branding and user interface design.To incentivize users to actively participate in reducing their carbon footprint, we implemented features within the application to provide real-time feedback on the environmental impact of their trips. Despite obtaining the necessary API keys and enabling the required services, the integration did not work as expected. We spent hours trying to solve the issue. Eventually, we were at last able to solve the issue with the help of mentors provided in the hall.
