The Kisan Sathi Application aims to empower farmers in Haryana by promoting sustainable agriculture and optimizing crop yields. Currently, about half of the state's farmers rely on the traditional wheat-paddy cycle, which consumes significant water resources, primarily from tube wells, leading to continuous groundwater depletion. With an average income of around 10,000 rupees per acre, the government is working to double this amount while promoting crop diversification. The app offers AI-driven crop recommendations to identify scientifically suitable crops, encouraging the shift towards minor crops like millet.
Kisan Sathi addresses key agricultural challenges by providing real-time weather updates, facilitating easy access to fertilizers and pesticides, and recommending government schemes and subsidies based on farmer queries. The app also includes pest and disease detection, crop registration for damage reporting, and a comprehensive admin dashboard for environmentalists and scholars. By integrating hardware, the application enables farmers to monitor crop health, receive timely alerts, and make informed decisions on pest control, irrigation, and other agronomic practices. Overall, Kisan Sathi aims to increase income, improve crop management, and support sustainable farming.
Challenge was implementing a dynamic government scheme recommender based on farmers' queries. Different schemes target specific crops, regions, and circumstances, which made it difficult to map them efficiently. We resolved this by employing Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques that analyzed farmers’ text or voice queries to identify relevant keywords, allowing the application to recommend the most suitable schemes.
Lastly, the real-time weather updates and pest detection required continuous monitoring of multiple data sources. We tackled this issue by integrating third-party weather APIs and using edge computing to process data from IoT-based sensors in the field for timely insights. This significantly improved the accuracy of the app's alerts and notifications.
