Your Browser's Invisible Armour for Privacy and Security
The problem Kavach solves
Internet users are constantly exposed to cyber threats as they navigate various websites, often without realizing the potential risks involved.
Users frequently input personal information on websites to register, make purchases, or utilize services. This data can include sensitive details such as passwords, financial information, and personal identifiers.
Cookie Acceptance Risks: The act of accepting cookies, while commonplace, can lead to extensive user tracking and profiling by various entities, compromising privacy.
Dynamic and Unpredictable Web: The internet is ever-evolving, with new websites and potential security threats emerging daily, making it challenging for users to know which sites are safe.
Real-Time Decision Making: Users need to make quick decisions about their online interactions without sufficient information on the potential security risks associated with a website.
There is one cybersecurity attack every 39 seconds, the problem is clear and we needed a solution for our browsing activity to function safely. Our solution solves this problem by :
Kavach provides real-time safety ratings for each webpage a user visits, informing them of potential risks and the security level of the site.
Secure Browsing Options: For websites that score low on safety, Kavach offers alternatives like browsing through secured VPNs, Tor, or local hosts, ensuring users can access services without compromising their security.
Challenges we ran into
While building the Kavach browser extension, one of our main challenges was not just to generate dynamic safety scores for webpages but also to provide actionable solutions based on those scores. To address this, we introduced an innovative proxy server integration. This feature enables users, whose webpage safety score falls below 40, to access those pages through safer alternatives like local hosts, Tor browsers, SOCKS, or a secured VPN service, ensuring their browsing remains secure.
We also faced a challenge while integrating VPN Proxy server due to paid restrictions, which we would like to cater later in future with the right guidance and directions.
Another significant hurdle was incorporating real-time data for accurate safety scoring. Due to the costs associated with the Google Safe Browsing API, we enhanced our approach by combining real data with synthetic data, which we generated based on key cybersecurity data points such as:
URL reputation
SSL certificate validity
Presence of known phishing or malware risks
Traffic encryption standards
These measures have allowed us to provide a robust, reliable safety scoring system that adapts to the latest web security challenges, ensuring Kavach users are always protected.
