Kala-Kriti

Making short work of harmful carbon emissions from automobiles.

The problem Kala-Kriti solves

Carbon emissions from fuel-powered vehicles are one of the leading contributors to the dangerously increasing levels of harmful gases in the atmosphere. Some vehicle owners overlook their vehicle’s emissions, while others believe these emissions have a negligible impact on the environment. The problem is further amplified when considering the massive number of vehicles using fossil fuels. KALA-KRITI aims to address this issue by providing an active monitoring system for detecting and reducing carbon emissions.

Kala-Kriti is an exhaust monitoring system for detecting and reducing carbon emissions from fuel-powered vehicles. It employs advanced technology, including activated charcoal filtration, real-time air quality sensing, and microcontroller integration, to effectively reduce carbon emissions from vehicles. The system also alerts users and authorities about elevated emissions levels.

All sensor data is persistently stored in a MongoDB database, facilitating historical tracking and comprehensive emission analytics. The collected data is presented on a web-based application accessible to both the vehicle owner and government authorities. Kala-Kriti proactively notifies the vehicle owner and relevant government authorities about excessive carbon emissions from a specific vehicle.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into various errors, some of which were calibration of the MQ-2 sensor, incorrect working of the I2C LCD, and latency in changing the state of the RGB LED, Buzzer, and LCD simultaneously. We also faced some difficulty in setting up the communication between the microcontroller and the API for storing the collected data, but were able to find a fairly simple workaround.
