Why are you participating for Based SEA?

I'm participating in Based SEA because I believe Southeast Asia has immense potential to adopt blockchain technology, especially in onboarding new users into the web3 space. With my project, Just a Slime, I'm focused on simplifying the process of introducing people to the Base ecosystem, starting with students.

In Southeast Asia, and particularly in the Philippines, there's a strong sense of community, especially within schools, and this provides a unique opportunity to leverage the network effects that can drive adoption. By participating in Based SEA, I'm aligning my goals with a community that shares the same vision of building accessible, localized solutions for web3 adoption. I want to help people understand blockchain by making it fun and easy to engage with—whether through real-world SLIME QR codes, free tokens, or open-source apps. Based SEA is the perfect platform to showcase these innovations and collaborate with others in the region who are also passionate about blockchain growth.

What challenges are you focusing on?

The main challenge I'm addressing is the onboarding of new users into the on-chain ecosystem, particularly within the Base network. The complexity of web3 can be intimidating, especially for those unfamiliar with blockchain technology. To simplify the process, I'm using real-world ads like SLIME QR codes that direct people to Coinbase Wallet, where they receive free SLIME tokens to play around with and learn.

This Buildathon, I created SLIME PFP keychains with a QR code on the back. When scanned, users are taken to a website where they can learn the basics of the Base ecosystem. Right now, my focus is on students because schools have a strong networking effect. The app I've built is also open-source, so others can adapt it to their needs—whether it's a guide for gaming projects like Cat.Town that rewards users with tokens so they can start playing the game and learn more about blockchain by experiencing it.

By making the onboarding process more fun and accessible, I'm helping new users explore on-chain activity with ease, while also contributing to the Base ecosystem's growth.

How does your submission address this challenge?

My submission addresses the challenge by making onboarding into the blockchain ecosystem simple and fun. I started SLIME as a side project, originally as a meme coin, with the aim of building a large community and expanding my skills across different areas. To onboard new users, I created SLIME QR codes and placed them on public transport, like Grab Car and UV Express vans. This gives passengers an easy way to scan or take a picture of the code, which directs them to Coinbase Wallet to receive their first ETH and SLIME tokens. The potential impact is huge, as these passengers can share the experience with their friends, creating a viral networking effect.

Recently, I took this further by building a website that provides students with basic knowledge of the Base ecosystem. After reading, they can claim some SLIME and ETH tokens to play around with and get hands-on experience. To make it even more engaging, I’m distributing keychains with a SLIME PFP on the front and a QR code on the back, allowing students to explore blockchain technology in a fun, accessible way.

Challenges I ran into

One of the challenges I ran into was that the tokens I distributed initially got farmed. Luckily, it was only a small portion of test tokens, but it highlighted the risks involved in onboarding users with incentives. Fortunately, the platform I used addressed and fixed the issue quickly. Since I'm not a programmer, I rely on AI and existing platforms to bring my ideas to life, which sometimes means running into technical challenges that I have to work around. Despite that, I’ve been able to adapt and continue pushing forward with my project.

Additional Features

Before the Buildathon, my SLIME project was already in motion as a fun way to engage users with blockchain. However, during the Buildathon, I introduced several new features to enhance the project:

I created a website where students can learn about the Base ecosystem, making it easier for them to understand the basics of blockchain.

I designed and started distributing SLIME PFP keychains with QR codes on the back to engage students in a fun and interactive way. These keychains allow them to scan the code, learn about Base, and claim SLIME and ETH tokens.

Update October 8th, I began distributing the keychains, targeting 50 students and generating 500 claim links. I’m excited to see how this will further engage students and help onboard them to the Base ecosystem.

Update: My cousin had a criminology week last Friday and he is giving slime pfp keychains on their boot after winning on their pop the balloon game!

Update October 14th, I fixed some bugs after 28th claim of links the page of "all links have claimed" is shown and users are not able to claim. I got 61 engagement from the claim links (I'm using bitly to monitor it) and I planning to produce more slime pfp keychain so that I can give it to different schools! making the onboarding campaign more effective.

Update October 16th, I improve the design making it better experience for mobile. I use a custom fonts and optimize some font size, spacing, and alignments. The claim reward is region locked to Philippines so that I can know how many Filipino claim the reward and onboarded to coinbase wallet. Feel free to check the website it's on the links section.

Update October 20th. Before the submission get closed, I just wanted to have some update. I got total of 91 of clicks from the Claim Reward button and 25 sucessful claims. I believe the ratio is not bad for a 50 keychains, I will produce more keychain and distribute to students, friends and family! I will bring new users onchain!

Cheer Project

Cheering for a project means supporting a project you like with as little as 0.0025 ETH. Right now, you can Cheer using ETH on Arbitrum, Optimism and Base.
