Juntadas

An app that connects strangers through dinners, promoting meaningful, low-risk networking with no cost beyond commitment.

Why are you participating for Based LatAm?

I live in Salta, Argentina, a region where there are very few networking events, particularly for crypto and tech communities. Many people, myself included, work remotely and often struggle to find meaningful face-to-face connections. My motivation comes from wanting to create a safe, decentralized way for people to build real-life connections that are both valuable and enjoyable.

What challenges are you focusing on?

Today, 25% of people report feeling isolated and lacking an IRL (in-real-life) community to connect with and share ideas. While 39% of people meet online, with the rise of AI, there’s growing distrust in one-on-one meetings, especially due to potential risks—an issue particularly concerning for women.

How does your submission address this challenge?

We aim to solve these problems through an app that allows users to join dinners with strangers at no cost—only requiring a deposit of 5 USDC to ensure commitment. If the user attends, they get their deposit back, making the dinner essentially free.

Additionally, we offer an on-chain networking reputation score to encourage respectful, meaningful, and high-value dinners among our users. The app also allows users to nominate new restaurants globally, making our project highly decentralized and scalable.

We use ChatGPT AI from OpenAI to match dinner participants with the best possible combinations, ensuring high-value and meaningful connections. To achieve this, we have a quiz system with 15 questions divided into 3 categories: Social Interaction, Professional Interests, and Personal Development.

Challenges I ran into

The main challenge was building a prototype that solves the problem in the simplest way possible. As my specialty is product design, I focused on creating a Figma prototype to visualize the final product. The hardest part was designing an intuitive, user-friendly UI, especially for those unfamiliar with crypto.

Another significant challenge was applying game theory to establish the right incentives and penalties for user behavior. To ensure attendance, users deposit 5 USDC, which they get back if they attend the dinner, making the event free. If they don’t attend, they lose their deposit, encouraging commitment.

Respectful behavior is encouraged through an on-chain reputation system, where users rate each other after the dinner. Good ratings improve their reputation and increase chances of future invites, while poor behavior reduces their likelihood of being matched again.

We also apply game theory to allow users to propose venues. By requiring a deposit to submit a venue, users are incentivized to suggest real, quality places. If accepted, they benefit from reservations through the app. To prevent fraudulent submissions, curators verify the venue’s existence. If it's a scam, the proposer loses their deposit, discouraging fraud and ensuring the platform remains decentralized and scalable.

Additional Features

I started the project exactly 3 days ago after seeing a post from @SimonethG. It’s an idea I’ve had for a long time, and I want to bring it to life because I live in a city far from Buenos Aires where there are very few networking activities or crypto events. I spend most of my time working alone at home, like many other remote workers in LATAM.
