JeevanRaksha
Bengal Disaster Relief Hub
The problem JeevanRaksha solves
This website makes disaster help smarter and faster. When floods, cyclones, or earthquakes happen, people often don’t know where to go or how to get help. Our platform connects victims, volunteers, and authorities on one map. We can log in with just our phone number, upload our ID, and request assistance. Volunteers nearby get notified and can respond. Rescue teams see real-time updates. It works in local languages, even offline if needed. We utilize AI to identify urgent needs and present the most relevant information first. It's not just a website — it's a lifeline during a crisis, built for Bengal and ready to grow beyond.

Challenges we ran into
While building the Disaster Help & Rescue platform, one of the major challenges was handling network issues in disaster-affected areas, where internet access is often limited or unstable. To solve this, we implemented a Progressive Web App (PWA), which allows the platform to work offline or with minimal connectivity.
Another big hurdle was setting up real-time, two-way communication between victims and volunteers. We wanted people in need to chat directly with nearby helpers. For this, we integrated WebSockets, but it was technically tricky to establish a smooth and reliable messaging system. After several rounds of debugging, we successfully implemented it.
We also struggled with finding a good disaster prediction API — most available services were either expensive or lacked local data. So, we built a custom solution by scraping relevant data from a government website and converting it into alerts.
Overall, these challenges taught us a lot about resilience — not just in technology, but in problem-solving too — just like the communities we aim to serve.
