The problem Ignite Hack solves
Traditional hackathons, while fostering innovation, often come with hidden complexities that hinder seamless execution. One of the most significant obstacles is the cumbersome process of award distribution. In a world driven by digital currencies and decentralized systems, it's paradoxical that hackathon rewards are still routed through traditional banking systems. This outdated process results in exorbitant fees, lengthy transaction times, and tedious administrative tasks. The innovation sparked by participants can be overshadowed by the intricacies of handling prize money.
Enter our revolutionary platform - a solution designed to address these glaring issues. Our project seeks to leverage the inherent advantages of blockchain technology and smart contracts to streamline hackathon award distribution. By utilizing NEAR's robust smart contract infrastructure, I've eliminated the need for intermediaries and bank transactions, replacing them with direct, secure, and instant cryptocurrency awards. This fundamental shift not only simplifies the process but also aligns hackathons with the principles of decentralization and transparency.
Our motivation to create this solution was deeply rooted in the vision of VBI(Vietnam Blockchain Innovation). While VBI excels at imparting cutting-edge knowledge about web3, blockchain, and decentralized technologies, there was a conspicuous gap in applying these principles to their own hackathon events. The discrepancy between the modern curriculum they offered and the traditional administration of their hackathons was palpable. I embarked on this project with the aspiration to bridge this gap, providing VBI with a platform that aligns with their educational ethos and embodies the true spirit of innovation.
Challenges I ran into
My journey to develop this groundbreaking platform was marked by significant challenges that tested my technical acumen and resolve. The first major hurdle i encountered was diving into the world of Rust-based smart contract development using NEAR SDK. The learning curve was steep, as i had to navigate Rust's syntax intricacies and understand the nuances of blockchain-based logic. However, with the guidance of the community, i emerged victorious. This challenge not only enhanced my coding skills but also solidified my belief in the power of blockchain technology.
As i delved into the frontend development using BOS components, a different set of challenges presented themselves. While BOS provides on-chain frontend components, it required adherence to development workflow. Inter-component communication and synchronization proved to be complex, often necessitating a paradigm shift from traditional frontend development practices. I invested significant effort in understanding these intricacies and optimizing my project's frontend architecture. I grappled with aspects like handling state management, managing the project's structure, and integrating external libraries. These challenges prompted us to develop creative workarounds and novel approaches to ensure a smooth user experience.
One notable challenge that i embraced as an opportunity was building a platform that can evolve in future. I envisioned this project not just as a solution for VBI but as a foundational platform can be expanded for other hackathon organizers, required me to design architecture with scalability in mind, laying the groundwork for incorporating new features and improving the user interface. The challenge was not only in the technical implementation but also in foreseeing the diverse requirements of future hackathons. My dedication to this alignment bolstered my determination to creating a solution that not only solves a technical problem but also resonates with VBI's core values.
