HearVu

The most valuable thing for a disabled person is gaining independence. Our prototype can help the visually impaired by merely scanning the document with help of the HearVu goggles.

The problem HearVu solves

The main problem while reading is the variation in everyone's handwriting. At times, it becomes difficult to read, understand, and share the handwritten document. The issue also is that we can't organize and search through handwritten notes the way we can with files on a digital device. It becomes way more difficult for the blind people to read and store the document.

IDEA : The idea aims to identify the document, that is handwritten or printed text. If it is handwritten, it can identify the personality of the person and thus, convert the document into printed text (into desired language). Further, this handwritten text is converted into an audio signal so the visually impaired can do their day to day tasks and get the information from normal documents. It will help blind people to a very great extent so that they need not depend on others for reading and storing
documents.

Challenges we ran into

The scanning part of the document will be done
by the blind, hence whether the document is in the correct position or not, is the
amount of light falling on the document is correct or not need to be told to
the user.
This problem can be solved using smart HearVu glasses which will scan the
document for the blind and pass on the scanned copy to the app for further
processing. The user wi get the feedback in the form of audio for informing
the user to adjust the position of the document and the light.
