Challenges we ran into

During the development of the Health Yaar website, we encountered several key challenges that shaped our design and technical decisions. One of the biggest hurdles was implementing the SOS emergency feature. Capturing accurate real-time location data and sending it instantly to emergency contacts via SMS or email required careful handling of permissions, API integration, and speed optimization. We overcame this by using the browser's geolocation API and integrating EmailJS/Twilio for rapid alerts. Designing an intuitive user interface was another challenge—we needed a layout that worked for all age groups while presenting multiple features like the health dashboard, educational tips, and chatbot. Using Tailwind CSS helped us create a clean, mobile-responsive design.

Privacy and security were also major concerns, given the sensitive nature of health data. We ensured secure authentication (e.g., Firebase) and limited data storage to protect user information. Another technical hurdle was building a helpful chatbot that didn’t overload the system. Instead of complex AI, we implemented a lightweight, rule-based chatbot with helpful responses and symptom suggestions. Time constraints of the hackathon also made it essential to prioritize features—we focused on critical components like SOS, the dashboard, and the chatbot, while leaving room for future expansion. Additionally, integrating multiple APIs posed issues with timeouts and errors, so we built fallback systems and alerts to handle failures gracefully. These challenges not only tested our technical skills but also helped us build a more reliable and user-friendly healthcare platform.
