Creating Awareness: The problem of high crime rates is quite prevalent in our country. Upon analysing news articles reporting these crimes, we saw a trend that certain localities have a high crime rate for a particular crime, or the victims had a similar profile, which implies that some people are at more risk than others. Yet if you are looking to relocate to any part of the country, there is no portal available where you can check how safe that locality is, what crimes were reported there in the past.
To address this problem we have come up with a Web-App, wherein you enter your details like your Age and Gender along with the locality you are interested in, and the app by going through online news articles, reporting crimes in that locality, applying NLP techniques, tells you the safety index of that locality and how safe it is for someone with your profile. It is a one-stop solution for anyone looking to analyse the safety of a locality before making their decision.
According to a news report by the Times of India, 2 hundred thousand students move to Kota, a city in Rajasthan, India to prepare for entrance exams, and the number is always rising. If a student who has never been to Kota before were to search online for hostels, thousands of options pop up as Kota is a student-focused city. But while researching for our project we found out, there is a village in Kota where 4 rape cases were reported within a span of just 3 months. Considering the fact that it is not a metropolitan it is a safe assumption many cases might never even get reported. You wouldn't find these kinds of incidents unless you know what you were looking for. This is what we want to change.
Whether you are a student, a jobseeker or anyone else this portal can act as a one-stop solution to make sure you make an informed decision about your next home.
This app creates awareness amongst all potential home buyers, so they can make an informed decision.
We faced some issues when trying to deploy the project on Heroku, but eventually, we resolved it by reading multiple blogs and troubleshooting.
