The problem GreenPool solves

In India, the presence of more than 250 million vehicles on the roads presents a
pressing challenge. A considerable number of these travel to the same destinations with
unoccupied passenger seats, resulting in a significant problem of underutilization. This
underutilization not only strains the nation's road infrastructure but also exacerbates
environmental concerns due to the excessive carbon emissions stemming from these
parallel trips along similar routes.
The magnitude of this issue cannot be overstated. The carbon footprint generated by
these redundant journeys to common destinations is a substantial contributor to India's
overall greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, it places an unnecessary burden on the
finite natural resources required to fuel these vehicles.
Addressing this problem is paramount for India's sustainable development and
environmental preservation efforts. Finding effective solutions to encourage ride-sharing,
and reduce the number of empty passenger seats is vital.
Bydoing so, we can alleviate congestion on the roads, conserve resources, and significantly
curtail the environmental impact of the vast Indian vehicular network.

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring an intuitive and seamless user experience posed a significant challenge. Balancing functionality with simplicity and responsiveness required extensive user testing and design adjustments. Implementing user interface enhancements added complexity to the development process.

Choosing the appropriate Map style that aligned with our project requirements was the initial challenge. We needed a map that seamlessly integrated with our web application and provided the flexibility to customize according to our needs.
To achieve this, we utilized Google's wizard-style website, which allowed us to customize the map's appearance, including colors, labels, and markers, to match our branding and user interface design.

To incentivize users to actively participate in reducing their carbon footprint, we implemented features within the application to provide real-time feedback on the environmental impact of their trips. Users were presented with personalized statistics showing the number of trees saved for each trip. Which took quite some time because we needed to use the functionality of the Javascript Map API to calculate the distance and then calculate the trees and carbon emissions released in the atmosphere which proved quite the challenge but as a team we figured it out.

One significant hurdle we faced was incorporating Google APIs for places, routes, and autocomplete functionalities. Despite obtaining the necessary API keys and enabling the required services, the integration did not work as expected. We spent hours trying to solve the issue. Eventually, we discovered through a website recommendation that restricting the API access might resolve the issue. This experience underscored the importance of thorough research and exploring all available troubleshooting avenues.
