GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out)

With motto of "Fohor to mohor", GIGO is developed as a sustainable approach to solid waste crisis in major cities of Nepal using Blockchain based reward system with built in Online Management System.

The problem GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) solves

GIGO serves unique purpose for different types of the product user . An end user can register and subscribe to waste management company and earn rewards for segregation of waste in terms of in-app coin(Mohorcoin) through the app , waste management company can manage their customers, track their revenue through the app, customers can redeem reward coin with various perks, services, discounts, and more.

One of the main problems with recycling wastes is found to be nonsegregated wastes, with the Segregation of Waste into degradable and non degradable at source using positive reinforcement reward principle, the recyle rate of the waste will be increased by 75%.

With increase in recyle of waste materials, the rate of disposal site filling will decrease tremendously.

Challenges we ran into

GIGO uses in-app coin called Mohorcoin to hand out a reward as a result of properly segregated waste collection to give positive reinforcements to the users. But using traditional database , making a coin / asset doesnot seem right option . In those system , central authority could just get in the server and change the data which would make Mohorcoin not valuable .

To solve this issue , we wanted to use Blockchain technology as it would make tampering of coin almost impossible . But the hurdle we ran was how a blockchain data would be public and how anyone could access it if they are in the network . To solve this we used Permissioned / Private Blockchain . This fitted our need as we needed to limit the permissions in the blockchain and limit the access to the users in the blockchain that reflect our users in traditional database.

Another problem was with transferring of coin from a user to another user in the fastest way possible . We researched the current market trends and noticed how big names were using QR code as a method of transferring coin .So we also implemented this feature in the system tremendously shortened the user's time.
