Mapping India's Progress: Unveiling Data Insights through Interactive Maps
The problem GeoInsight India solves
"Addressing the need for accessible and insightful information on various socio-economic and health-related aspects of India, there is a lack of user-friendly platforms that allow individuals to interactively explore and compare data. To bridge this gap, our project aims to create an intuitive and visually engaging map-based application that enables users to search for specific aspects such as health sector performance, crime rates, economic indicators, and disease spread in India. The challenge lies in efficiently collecting and visualizing accurate and up-to-date data, designing an intuitive user interface, and optimizing the application's performance to provide a seamless experience for users while adhering to data privacy and legal regulations."
Challenges we ran into
Data Retrieval and API Access: Accessing government data through APIs may require permission, registration, and API keys. You might need to navigate bureaucratic processes to gain access.
Data Consistency: Government data may come from various sources and departments, leading to inconsistencies in data formats, schemas, and quality.
Data Volume: India is a large country with a significant amount of data. Handling and processing large datasets can be resource-intensive and time-consuming.
Geospatial Data Complexity: Geospatial data often includes various geographic layers, polygons, and boundaries. Integrating and representing this data accurately can be challenging.
Data Transformation: Raw data from APIs needed transformation to make it suitable for composable mapping. This was a time-consuming and error-prone process.
Performance Optimization: Composable maps can be computationally intensive, especially for large geographic areas like India. Ensuring smooth and responsive map rendering can be a challenge.
API Changes and Updates: Government APIs can undergo changes, updates, or even discontinuation. This can disrupt your project if you're not vigilant in monitoring and adapting to these changes.
