GEOFENCE

A safety system for fishermen in India – Sri Lanka maritime boundary.

The problem GEOFENCE solves

India – Sri Lanka bilateral relationship is always of international importance due to many well-known factors, the maritime boundary between the two nations being the most important, contributing to it. But there is a serious problem associated with it which is as follows.

The uncertain and unsafe state of Indian fishermen in the India – Sri Lanka maritime boundary resulting due to them trespassing the boundary as there is no means of a gated or lined border in the sea. Devastating situations like damage to boats and fishing nets, imprisonment and to the extreme – deaths are often witnessed.

There are some existing models for fishermen rescue operations which use GPS to track and send the information using GSM module to nearby control station and the fishermen are rescued from Sri Lankan navy. These models aren’t widely used as there are numerous disadvantages associated with them lined below.
• Using GSM to send and alert the control station cannot be possible all times.
• Ocean can lack networking.
• No Relevance to any backup process if GPS fails to work in ocean.
• Existing model uses AT89C51 microcontroller which doesn't have any inbuilt ADC and EEPROM.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was that we couldn't get all the hardware components as the electronic stores were out of stock of the components due to lockdown.
