GasLess

Enabling seamless, fee-free microtransactions on Base for tipping and small payments in social platforms.

Why are you participating for Based India?

India is rapidly adopting blockchain technology, with a growing interest in decentralized applications. However, many users in India, particularly those in emerging markets, are deterred by high transaction costs on blockchain networks. By participating in this hackathon, I aim to build a solution that can promote inclusion by enabling microtransactions without gas fees, making blockchain accessible to all. This project is rooted in my desire to contribute to the blockchain ecosystem in India and offer solutions that make decentralized finance (DeFi) usable for everyone.

What challenges are you focusing on?

One of the biggest challenges for decentralized applications in India, especially for small creators and users, is the high cost of gas fees, making microtransactions unfeasible. This is especially important for people in regions where smaller payments can represent a larger proportion of income. We’re also addressing the lack of infrastructure for simple social tipping mechanisms on Base that could encourage broader adoption of decentralized technologies.

How does your submission address this challenge?

Our project enables gasless microtransactions using meta-transactions, where users sign transactions without paying gas, and a relayer submits the transactions to the Base blockchain. This solution allows small content creators and regular users to tip and engage with social platforms without worrying about gas fees, thereby creating a more accessible and inclusive ecosystem for microtransactions. The potential impact includes fostering greater interaction on decentralized social apps, improving adoption, and supporting creators with small but meaningful contributions.

Challenges I ran into

Meta-transaction implementation: One of the biggest technical hurdles was implementing the meta-transaction structure where users could sign transactions off-chain. Understanding and incorporating EIP-712 was key to overcoming this challenge.
Relayer coordination: Managing a smooth user experience while running the relayer required addressing challenges in gas cost management and ensuring timely transaction processing.
Testing on Base: Simulating different network conditions for users with limited bandwidth in India helped to ensure the app could be widely adopted.

Cheer Project

Cheering for a project means supporting a project you like with as little as 0.0025 ETH. Right now, you can Cheer using ETH on Arbitrum, Optimism and Base.
