Why are you participating for Based LatAm?

There is still a massive user experience problem in DeFi ; it’s time-consuming, knowledge-gated, and risky. However, at the same time, recent developments in AI and account abstraction make it possible to create new solutions that address this complexity. That's why we're building Fungi – to make DeFi easy.

Our mission aligns closely with the goals of Base LatAm, as we both aim to reduce barriers and create more inclusive access to decentralized finance.

As for our connection to the region, while we're currently based in Madrid, four out of our five team members are originally from Venezuela. We spent most of our lives there, which gives us a deep-rooted connection to Latin America. This regional understanding motivates us to contribute to the ecosystem and help drive innovation in LatAm.

What challenges are you focusing on?

The major challenges we're tackling include:

Simplifying DeFi's Complexity DeFi remains knowledge-gated and difficult for everyday users. We're addressing this by developing a natural language AI interface, allowing users to perform DeFi transactions easily.

Increased User Adoption: Only a small percentage of crypto users engage with DeFi due to its barriers. Our goal is to make it more accessible, engaging, and mobile-friendly.

With the help of Base, an Ethereum Layer 2, we're able to conduct fast and cost-effective on-chain transactions, which is crucial for scaling DeFi use cases. Additionally, Base provides a robust on-chain toolkit, including Base Names—which we're leveraging to enhance user experience and build an easily navigable ecosystem.

Base's support through low-cost infrastructure and valuable development tools helps us make DeFi more accessible for everyone.

How does your submission address this challenge?

At Fungi, we're tearing down the barriers in DeFi with AI. Our DeFi AI Agent allows users to chat with decentralized finance, making complex transactions as simple as natural language commands. This is a total shift in DeFi UX, transforming how people interact with crypto.

We believe AI agents are the future of DeFi, making it accessible to everyone, not just the tech-savvy. With AI at the core, we’re leading the charge towards a more inclusive financial system.

With Base’s support, we’re accelerating this revolution, bringing DeFi to the masses.

Challenges I ran into

Having an agent as an interpreter of the user intents can be challenging given that good responses from LLM based agents also require good context. This is specially true when working with DeFi tools that require passing addresses that non crypto natives find intimidating or no nothing about. Passing the context in the background, giving tools to the agent to interpret token names and DeFi terminlogy, and display all these in a nice UX was one of the biggest challenges we had.

Additional Features

We added new visualization tools to our chat component, this allows the agent to plot interactive charts for token prices, technical analysis and others. We also enabled the use of base names e.g. vitalik.base.eth, so the agent can now correctly interpret them and make transactions and get informations of the addresses that these names represent.
