FoodShare

FoodShare is an AI-powered platform enabling users to list, buy, or donate near-expiry food, reducing food waste through community sharing, real-time updates, and sustainable meal planning.

The problem FoodShare solves

Our app directly addresses SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 1 (No Poverty), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by creating a sustainable food redistribution system that minimizes waste and supports vulnerable communities.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Food waste contributes to environmental degradation and inefficient resource use. Our platform ensures surplus food is efficiently redistributed instead of being discarded, reducing landfill waste and lowering the carbon footprint of cities. By optimizing food logistics, we promote sustainable urban living and responsible consumption.

SDG 1: No Poverty

Millions struggle with food insecurity while perfectly good food goes to waste. Our app bridges this gap by enabling businesses, restaurants, and individuals to donate surplus food to those in need. This creates a cost-free and sustainable food supply chain for underserved communities, reducing hunger and food scarcity.

SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities

Food accessibility is often uneven, with disadvantaged communities suffering the most. By decentralizing food distribution, our app ensures fairer access to food resources, regardless of economic status. A blockchain-based points system further ensures transparency and trust, allowing users to earn and redeem food equitably.

By combining AI-driven logistics, blockchain-based incentive systems, and community engagement, our solution transforms food waste into a powerful tool for social and environmental sustainability.

Challenges we ran into

We faced considerable difficulties in establishing a secure HTTPS connection across the application. Creating a reliable food item recognition model, capable of identifying a wide range of food products, was a major technical challenge that we successfully addressed. However, integration was prevented by time constraints and complex merge conflicts. We also encountered significant bundling problems with Capacitor, which hampered our development efforts
