Connecting Surplus to Service: Reducing Waste, Nourishing Communities
The problem Food Flow solves
Food Flow addresses the dual challenges of food waste and food insecurity. It provides a platform for efficiently connecting surplus food from donors with organizations serving vulnerable populations, ensuring that no good food goes to waste while also helping to alleviate hunger in communities.
Challenges we ran into
- Logistical Challenges: Coordinating the logistics of food collection, storage, and distribution posed initial challenges, especially in optimizing routes and ensuring timely delivery to recipients.
- Technological Integration: Integrating various technologies, such as mapping APIs for location-based matching and a user-friendly interface for seamless interaction, required careful planning and implementation(Geocoding API).
- Community Engagement: Engaging and mobilizing communities to participate in the food donation process and overcoming potential trust barriers posed challenges in the initial stages of the project.
- Scaling Operations: Scaling operations to accommodate the growing demand for food donations and expanding the network of donors and recipients required strategic planning and resource allocation.
