The problem FilmOnChain solves
Filmmakers and creators today face limited options for ownership, distribution, and monetization. Major streaming platforms control access to audiences, take large revenue cuts, and provide no transparency or data ownership. Independent creators struggle to fund projects, build sustainable income, and connect directly with their communities.
FilmOnChain solves this by bringing the entire film ecosystem onchain, from crowdfunding and NFT minting to token-gated content, tipping, and direct payments. Creators can fund, publish, stream, and monetize their work directly while audiences support tv series / films / video content directly and earn shared rewards. The platform supports tipping, premium unlocks, and transparent payments through Base, allowing creators to keep more of what they earn while fans get closer to the stories they love.
Built on Base with Base Pay integration, FilmOnChain is a true home for video content, giving creators control, fans participation with rewards, and the industry a transparent, equitable future. FilmOnchain helps creators build sustainable careers and brings audiences into the heart of the cinematic experience.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was connecting wallet authentication with user identity in a smooth, familiar way. Many creators are new to onchain tools, so I needed a login flow that felt simple and secure, whether through a connected wallet or email. Integrating this while maintaining account recognition across devices took several iterations and debugging sessions, but was necessary to help bring the world onchain.
Another major hurdle was implementing premium unlocks without requiring creators to pay to view their own content. I built custom logic to distinguish between creator and audience roles, ensuring fair access while preserving trustless payments.
Finally, testing on mobile revealed layout and video playback challenges. Refining responsive behavior and full-screen functionality took time, but the result is a polished, creator-ready experience that works seamlessly across browsers and Base-integrated mini apps.

What is your product’s unique value proposition?
FilmOnChain is the first streaming and distribution platform built entirely on Base, giving filmmakers full ownership of their content, audience relationships, and revenue flow.
Unlike traditional streaming models, FilmOnChain lets creators:
- Publish and monetize films directly with transparent onchain payments
- Offer instant premium unlocks and tipping without third-party platforms
- Create token-gated access and season or episode sales to reward loyal fans
- Retain full control of data, creative rights, and audience engagement
The alpha build already demonstrates this value through live creator profiles, functional video streaming, premium unlock logic, and wallet-based payments that settle instantly on Base. FilmOnChain is the foundation for a creator-owned cinematic economy.
Who is your target customer?
Our primary customers are independent filmmakers, production teams, and digital creators seeking new ways to fund, distribute, and earn from their work without losing ownership.
They are the storytellers who already share short films, web series, documentaries, or music videos online but struggle to monetize through traditional channels like YouTube or streaming platforms like Netflix. Many are part of creative collectives, film DAOs, or onchain creator communities on Base and Farcaster.
On the audience side, our users are film enthusiasts and supporters who want a direct connection to creators; people who value authenticity, transparency, and shared participation in the creative process.
Through early testing with creators in the Base ecosystem, we’ve received consistent feedback that there’s strong demand for a transparent, creator-owned alternative to mainstream streaming platforms.
Who are your closest competitors and how are you different?
FilmOnChain competes with both mainstream streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Tubi, and creator platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, and Patreon.
These platforms share a core limitation as they are closed ecosystems. Access depends on gatekeepers, algorithms, or corporate approval. Creators have little control over visibility, payout timing, or audience data. Independent filmmakers often have to “know someone” just to get their work seen, and even then, revenue splits are opaque and restrictive. FilmOnChain removes those barriers entirely.
- Open access: Any verified filmmaker can publish, stream, and monetize directly with no industry gatekeepers or corporate barriers. FilmOnChain includes a lightweight approval process to confirm content ownership and prevent stolen intellectual property from being uploaded, ensuring fairness and trust for both creators and audiences.
- Transparent payments: Every transaction (tips, premium unlocks, token access) happens instantly and visibly on Base.

What is your distribution strategy and why?
FilmOnChain’s distribution strategy focuses on creator-first adoption and community-driven growth through the Base ecosystem and independent film networks.
- Industry bridge-building: As an active filmmaker myself, I already have strong relationships with filmmakers, producers, and studios who are not yet onchain. FilmOnChain serves as the bridge for this next wave showing traditional creators the benefits of transparent ownership, instant payments, and direct audience connection.
- Creator onboarding: We’re partnering directly with filmmakers, production teams, and content creators already building on Base and Farcaster. Each new creator brings their own audience, helping grow the platform organically while demonstrating transparent, onchain monetization.
- Community activations: FilmOnChain will host onchain film showcases, creator spotlights, and themed events (e.g., FilmOnChain Fridays) that reward both viewers and creators through interactive participation.
- Partnerships and integrations: We plan to integrate with Base-native payment tools, token platforms, and Farcaster mini apps to extend distribution beyond FilmOnChain’s main site making film discovery possible anywhere in the Base ecosystem.
- Strategic collaborations: Partnering with film collectives, creator DAOs, and onchain education programs allows us to tap into motivated, tech-forward filmmakers seeking fairer systems.
This strategy fits our audience because it mirrors how independent creators already grow: through collaboration, community, and transparent connection not expensive marketing or corporate gatekeeping.
