The problem FILMFUND.ETH solves
FILMFUND.ETH will be available to users with a Farcaster social site account. It aims to connect filmmakers, screenwriters, and investors. The project will utilize the Streamm.xyz video streaming service for Farcaster.
Problem and Motivation:
The founder, 113kw, has extensive experience in the film industry and is deeply involved in Film3, which focuses on Web3 applications for filmmakers. After closely observing the crypto industry since 2016, with an increased focus over the past four years, she identified several key issues:
1.Global Crypto Adoption: The ultimate goal should be to promote global crypto adoption.
2.Negative Portrayal: Movies, series, and documentaries often depict crypto enthusiasts as scammers or bad characters.
3.Misuse of Funds: Some Film3 projects have used crypto funds but still portrayed the crypto community negatively.
4.Positive Impact of Crypto: There are many individuals in the crypto community who have positively impacted society. These stories need to be told to showcase the true spirit of crypto.
5.Anonymity Respect: Many people in the crypto community prefer to stay anonymous. Traditional documentaries or YouTube interviews are not suitable for them. Instead, their stories can be told through reenactments with actors.
Platform Features:
-Story Submission: Screenwriters or individuals can submit their stories without appearing in them. They will receive an NFT that guarantees their rights if their project is selected.
-Filmmaker Participation: Filmmakers, including students, can submit their profiles and earn NFTs that ensure their participation and rights in successful projects.
-Investor Involvement: Investors can buy NFTs to fund projects and receive shares in case of monetary success.
Initial Phase and Roadmap:
First Round: Support for 3-5 short films, selected by the founder, a film university teacher, and experienced crypto enthusiast.
Future Rounds: Potential creation of a DAO or advanced voting system for selection.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges We Faced
Our journey with FILMFUND.ETH was marked by several significant challenges. Initially, my original team was not accepted into the hackathon, causing registration issues and delays in forming a new team. Once assembled, our biggest hurdle was finding a frontend developer as none of us had much UI experience. Despite these obstacles, we pressed on.
Project Development Challenges:
FILMFUND.ETH aims to solve several critical issues in both the film and crypto industries. The main challenge is the negative portrayal of crypto in mainstream media, where enthusiasts are often depicted as scammers or villains. This misrepresentation hinders global crypto adoption and overlooks the positive contributions of the crypto community.
Global Crypto Adoption:
One of our primary goals is to advance global crypto adoption by reshaping public perception. FILMFUND.ETH provides a platform for filmmakers, screenwriters, and investors to collaborate on projects that highlight the positive aspects of the crypto community. By explaining blockchain technology, decentralization, and solarpunk ideas through engaging films, we aim to educate the public and foster a more accurate understanding of crypto.
Real-World Impact:
FILMFUND.ETH combats negative stereotypes in media, ensures fair economic redistribution through a transparent NFT-based system, and preserves the anonymity of crypto enthusiasts by using actors for reenactments. The platform fosters ethical storytelling, allowing the positive stories within the crypto community to flourish, while also being fair to the creators , filmmakers and investors, in case of succes of the film.
