Smart File Sorting in One Click
The problem FileSeparator solves
Managing a large number of files in a single folder can be overwhelming and time-consuming. The File Separator app automates the process of sorting files by type, organizing them into categorized folders such as .pdf, .jpg, .txt, etc. This saves users from the hassle of manual sorting, reduces clutter, and improves productivity. It’s especially helpful for students, developers, office workers, or anyone regularly handling mixed file types.
Challenges I ran into
During a previous semester, I encountered a real-world problem: a single folder containing hundreds of files of different types. Manually organizing them based on file type (like .pdf, .jpg, .txt, etc.) was extremely time-consuming and error-prone. Even after spending a lot of time, some files were still left unsorted.
This experience led me to realize the need for automation — and that’s where the idea for this project came from.
To solve the problem, I built a Java Swing application that automatically scans a folder and separates files into subfolders based on their extensions. It saves time, reduces human error, and creates an organized structure in just a few clicks.
