Onboard the Kids to Base

The problem ferfie. solves

For the longest time, trying to teach kids about crypto hands-on was tough because of all the barriers to entry and malicious people and projects, but not anymore. The thing ferfie aims to do is close the gap, for younger people to onboard to crypto, now you can onboard and make it fun for them, while keeping it safe with controlled permissions.
Ok, so what is it?
ferfie is a fun way to get your kids into crypto, its an allowance and chore platform for you while for the kids a fun way to complete chores and receive allowances, they can use them to trade tokens, and collect nfts(and buy giftcards with that crypto depending on when your reading this, coming soon ;), all the permissions of which tokens or nft collections they can interact with are controlled by you to make it a safe environment. ferfie runs on stablecoins like USDC, CADC, EURC, IDRX, and BRZ, so the value of a $5 allowance today is still $5 tomorrow.
You can set allowances the kids receive on a set schedule, you can assign chores in three different ways, individually, first to complete, or to all your kids.

Permissions- your rules, their little onchain economy.

  • You decide, are tokens and NFTs a go or a no-go?
  • Curate their experience: Pick exactly which tokens and NFT collections they can see and interact with
  • Set their budget (spending limits).
  • Crypto going off the app? You approve any transfers outside ferfie, handpicking the destinations and amounts.

Challenges I ran into

A plot twist noone saw coming was the announcement that the reservoir API will shut down in October, right after the nft features were implemented, when the announcement came out I started replacing the reservoir API & SDK with the opensea SDK, and hopefully this one doesn't shut down or ill have to refactor again:(

Another challenge I ran into was parent auth and transaction approvals. At first, I tried a rudimentary setup using the ethers library and manually constructing transaction and message requests to connect the parent wallet and send approvals. This approach was clunky, I found a better method which was to integrate the OnchainKit, which made the entire process super easy, it took 10 lines of code(not including the providers.tsx) with the OnchainKit and 50+ with the ethers library.
