The problem FarAd solves
Lack of Promotion Platform on Farcaster:
Advertisers struggle to find an effective way to promote themselves within the Farcaster ecosystem. Unlike traditional social networks, Farcaster lacks established advertising channels, making it difficult for advertisers to reach their target audience in this social network.
Communication Barriers with Bloggers:
Most bloggers on Farcaster do not keep their direct messages open, making it difficult for advertisers to initiate contact. Even when direct messages are available, they often get buried among numerous other messages, leading to missed opportunities.
Insecure Deal-Making Processes:
Negotiating deals through direct messages is fraught with risks. There is no guarantee of commitment from either party, and terms can be easily misinterpreted or changed, leading to disputes and a lack of trust in the process.
Monetization Challenges for Bloggers:
Bloggers on Farcaster lack a dedicated platform to monetize their content effectively. Without a streamlined way to showcase their value and receive compensation, many miss out on potential revenue streams.
Time-Consuming Offer Management:
Manually managing ad offers is a cumbersome process that often requires hiring a dedicated ad manager. This not only increases operational costs, but also creates inefficiencies in handling multiple offers simultaneously.
Safety Concerns in Direct Deals:
Direct deals between advertisers and bloggers via messages are unsafe. There is no safeguard against fraudulent activities, and both parties remain vulnerable to scams and non-fulfillment of agreements.
Our platform addresses these challenges by providing a secure, decentralized environment where users can make offers for recasts or quotes through smart contracts. This ensures that all transactions are transparent, secure, and efficiently managed, allowing both advertisers and bloggers to shine in the Farcaster ecosystem.
Challenges we ran into
- Balancing Centralization and Decentralization:
• Initial Centralization: We started with a centralized signer on our server to issue signatures for reward claims. This was a pragmatic choice to ensure control and reliability. - Technical Integration:
• Offer Condition Verification: Implementing automated checks to confirm that conditions for offer completion or cancellation, like ad campaign duration or presense/absense of recast/quote, are met. This involved developing strict validating and signing algorithm to insure that signed messages come from a trusted validator and the result of validation is consistent (once validator makes a decision and sends response with a signature, validation result is final and cannot change). - Security:
• Data Privacy: Protecting user data while allowing necessary transparency in the decentralized network. We had to ensure compliance with privacy standards and secure storage practices. - Scalability:
• Future-Proofing: Anticipating future growth and potential technical challenges as we move towards decentralization, ensuring our system can adapt and evolve.
