Our project is an AI-powered misinformation detection and awareness system that brings real-time fact-checking directly to the platforms where misinformation spreads the most — WhatsApp and the web. Through a Twilio-powered WhatsApp bot, users can verify information using text, voice, or images. Text queries are processed with LangChain, which orchestrates between tools like Perplexity Sonar Pro for multi-source web searches, Vertex AI for reasoning, and Gemini AI for formatting responses clearly and reliably. Voice queries are handled by first converting speech to text with Google Speech-to-Text, passing it through the same fact-check pipeline, and then using Google Text-to-Speech to deliver the response back in audio, making the system accessible to users who prefer listening or face literacy barriers. For image queries, forwarded memes, screenshots, or posts are analyzed with Google Cloud Vision OCR, which extracts the text and verifies it through the same pipeline, returning results as verified, misleading, or fake with context. On the web, a Chrome extension allows users to paste text, input URLs, or even hover over suspicious content to instantly fact-check claims. It runs multi-source checks and presents credibility results with explanations and references. Together, these integrations ensure fact-checking is fast, transparent, and user-friendly, empowering people to understand not just whether something is true or false, but also why. By combining NLP, multimodal AI, and voice capabilities, our solution acts as a digital shield against misinformation, protecting communities and fostering informed decision-making.
