Why are you participating for Based Africa?
I am participating in Based Africa because I am passionate about leveraging technology to drive meaningful change in the African region. Having grown up in Africa, I have seen firsthand the challenges and opportunities that exist.I aim to contribute my skills and experience to build solutions that empower local communities, enhance connectivity, and promote economic growth across the continent.
What challenges are you focusing on?
Lack of Trust and Transparency: In traditional event management, there is often mistrust between organizers and participants, particularly regarding ticket sales, availability, and event authenticity. This lack of transparency can lead to ticket fraud and unreliable event details.
Ticket Fraud: Fake or duplicated tickets are a common issue, leading to financial losses for attendees and event organizers, along with a damaged reputation for local events.
Limited Financial Inclusion: Many people in my community do not have access to traditional banking services, making it difficult for them to participate in events that require secure, online payments.
Event Management Inefficiencies: Organizing and managing events manually can be time-consuming and prone to errors, with issues around keeping accurate records of ticket sales, event details, and payouts.
How does your submission address this challenge?
With the help of Base, I am addressing several key challenges in my community, particularly around event management, transparency, and financial inclusion. Traditional event management systems in the region often face issues like lack of trust, ticket fraud, and limited access to secure payment systems. By developing DappEventX, a decentralized platform on the Ethereum blockchain, I aim to solve these problems by ensuring transparent event creation, secure NFT-based ticketing, and tamper-proof records.
Additionally, integrating blockchain technology helps promote financial inclusion by enabling participants, even those without access to traditional banking, to purchase tickets using digital currencies. This promotes wider access to events and creates opportunities for local organizers to monetize their events in a secure and decentralized manner. Through Base, I am leveraging innovative technologies to create a more transparent, accessible, and efficient event ecosystem for the community.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges I faced while building DappEventX was balancing the technical complexities of blockchain development with my studies, as I worked on this project alone. Ensuring smart contract security and optimizing gas costs required careful planning, and I used the OpenZeppelin library to implement secure and efficient contracts. Simplifying the user experience for non-crypto users was another hurdle, which I addressed by integrating tools like RainbowKit and Wagmi for easy wallet connections. Managing smooth frontend-backend communication with ethers.js was challenging but made easier with Redux-Toolkit for handling app state. Additionally, testing on the Polygon Mumbai testnet and using a local Hardhat blockchain allowed me to develop cost-effectively before deployment. Despite being a solo developer and managing time between my studies, I successfully overcame these obstacles
