A wearable health device for the elderly.

The problem Eva solves

We are building a wearable health device for the elderly. It's a whole ecosystem to monitor their health with a major focus on fall detection. In old age, the bones start getting weak. Nearly 3 million elderly people are severely injured every year (which sometimes causes death) due to falling. We wanted to solve this huge problem. There are a lot of cases, how Apple watch has saved countless lives by alerting the caretaker when the elderly fall. That's great but the Apple watch is a $400 device. We believe that staying healthy shouldn't be just for the people who can afford a four hundred dollar watch but for everyone. We are building this device for under 8 dollars!! This wearable device will be connected to a caretaker app.

It's a whole health ecosystem with the wearable device paired with our own app which helps you monitor your overall health and has all the medical information necessary for an emergency.

Challenges we ran into

  • Making the hardware sensors work accurately was a tough task and took a lot of time to get it just perfectly right.
  • Integration of the app with the backend and the backend with the device was a little bit complicated but still, we were able to do it under time.
  • There were bugs in the app, so we had to dig up a lot on the internet, StackOverflow, Github, since some documentations were not that easy to get used to.
  • Calibrating the accelerometer, gyroscope sensor readings to differentiate between jump, left movement, and right movement was hard, but after lots of testing, hit & trials on lots of different devices, we were able to come up with a solution for this.

Overall it was a pretty fun and learning experience for us!
