The problem Emochat solves
Emoji are the internet’s original memes—a universal language for instantly conveying emotion.
Emochat is both a protocol that turns every emoji into a token and a chat app that puts those tokens to work in real time. Millions of people create custom emoji, yet creators still have no clear way to get paid. We solve this by minting every emoji as a CC0, ERC-1155 NFT, so creators can earn while users truly own their emoji.

- Custom emoji are locked inside walled gardens like Discord or Slack.—so there’s still no open, universal way to share feelings across the web.
- Crypto space still lacks products that friends and family can easily enjoy together.
Solution
Emochat is a chat app where each emoji is minted as an ERC-1155 NFT. Anyone can turn any image file (PNG, JPG, etc.) into an emoji, mint it on-chain, and use it instantly in chat. Because ownership is on-chain, your emoji can travel anywhere the standard is supported.

- Unlimited creativity: Any image can be turned into an emoji, enabling endless user-generated content.
- Built-in revenue sharing: Every mint splits the revenue between the creator, any referrer, and the Emochat treasury. Creators keep earning each time their emoji is minted.

Challenges I ran into
Real-time chat with NFTs: Fetching each emoji NFT image from IPFS and rendering it in chat had to feel instantaneous
Basename prefill : We tried to use OnchainKit to auto-set the Basename as the username, but since it can’t pre-fill the input field, we built our own form that loads the Basename by default and still lets users edit it.
