ElderEase

AI-powered care & safety companion for the elderly—ensuring health, security, and connection.

The problem ElderEase solves

ElderEase tackles major challenges faced by the elderly including delayed emergency assistance, health record inaccessibility, and medication non-adherence.
It helps users by:

Detecting falls & sending instant alerts via voice or SOS.

Tracking medical history and providing smart reminders for medications, hydration, and appointments.

Facilitating real-time communication with caregivers via video and voice chat.

Supporting cognitive engagement with mental health games.

Assisting memory through facial recognition and AI-powered reminders.

Enabling accessibility with voice assistance, regional language support, and screen readers.

ElderEase makes elderly care safer, smarter, and more compassionate—combining health, tech, and human touch in one platform.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges we ran into
Fall Detection Accuracy
Implementing fall detection using simulated accelerometer data was challenging without real sensor data. We overcame this by building a rule-based simulator and later preparing the backend for real device integration.

Twilio Rate Limits
Integrating Twilio for emergency SMS notifications faced rate limitations during testing. We resolved it by optimizing backend API calls and simulating responses during development.

Facial Recognition Setup
AWS Rekognition integration was initially slow due to IAM permissions and region restrictions. With help from AWS docs and team effort, we successfully integrated facial recognition for memory aid reminders.

UI Accessibility
Designing a UI that supports screen readers and low-data consumption required iteration and testing. We applied WCAG standards and lightweight design practices to balance accessibility with performance.
