The problem Eggplant solves
Problem Statement
- Today if one wants to visit the best places in any city, or find the best restaurant - they rely on Google maps, Instagram or Youtube to discover places.
- Curating data for a travel itinerary is a time-consuming process and people are instead turning to Reddit or similar forums to seek human assistance.
- People who create content on these platforms rely on ad revenue or paid partnerships for a living.
- Creating a platform where travelers can obtain curated data, as well as human assistance, can solve this problem while also creating career opportunities in the travel industry.
- The platform will be decentralized and privacy-first, encouraging socializing in the real world.
Solution objectives
- There are two types of users: the explorer (or traveler) and the local guide.
- Travelers look for up-to-date data and human interaction to clarify and personalize travel plans.
- A local guide explores the area and adds any missing places, details, or events to a ledger (like a travel wiki).
- They can answer questions and become travel guides to assist travelers in their plan
- The platform rewards local guides for their contributions
Challenges we ran into
We started with building a simple 2D game UI for the local guide. As we continued building, we felt that it was representing a Game rather than a Travel platform.
11 hours into the hackathon, we pivoted the idea to building the UI on AR.
