Challenges we ran into
One major challenge we faced was scraping data from travel portals. Many platforms have strict anti-scraping measures, inconsistent HTML structures, or dynamic content that made reliable data extraction difficult.
To overcome this, we:
🔐 Respected rate limits and implemented retries with exponential backoff
🤖 Used headless browsers (like Puppeteer) to render dynamic content where needed
🧹 Built custom parsers to handle inconsistent data structures across different portals
💾 Cached results and used background jobs to reduce load and improve performance
📘 Where possible, we explored official APIs as an alternative to scraping
This process not only improved data reliability but also helped us design a more resilient and scalable data pipeline.
