"Managing, Minimizing, and Repurposing Plastic Waste"

The problem EcoEarn solves

Managing plastic waste is a global issue. Our project tackles this problem by creating a web platform that allows users to dispose of plastic and other recyclable waste from home. Users can take a snapshot of the waste, and through AI and ML, the platform assesses its quality and quantity. Cashback points are generated based on these factors, which can be redeemed for rewards, discounts, or coupons for Bitcoin and NFT transactions. The app also assigns the nearest trader to pick up the waste, promoting easier and safer recycling.

Challenges we ran into

One significant hurdle was ensuring the accuracy of the AI-based waste identification system. We faced difficulties in training the model with quality data and making it reliably assess plastic types. Path optimization for assigning the nearest trader also posed a challenge, but we overcame this by refining our ML algorithms. Additionally, maintaining coordination between traders and users, while automating the cashback system, required careful testing to ensure seamless integration.
