Dual-Use Chemical Tracking System

The problem DTrace solves

The proliferation of dual-use chemicals poses a significant security risk, as they can be used for legitimate purposes but also have the potential to be misused for harmful purposes such as chemical weapons. Current tracking systems for dual-use chemicals may not be robust enough to detect and prevent misuse, which could result in serious consequences such as regulatory violations, legal liabilities, and public safety concerns.

A dual-use chemical tracking system using blockchain technology could address this problem by providing a secure, transparent, and auditable method for tracking the movement and usage of dual-use chemicals. By using a tamper-proof blockchain ledger to record every transaction, from the point of manufacture to the point of use, the system can ensure that the chemicals are being used for legitimate purposes and that any potential misuse is detected and prevented. This could help prevent regulatory violations, reduce legal liabilities, and ensure public safety, while still allowing for legitimate uses of dual-use chemicals.

Challenges we ran into

The several challenges that we faced while building this project are: -
Data management: Managing the large amounts of data generated by a dual-use chemical tracking system can be challenging. This includes ensuring that the data is accurate, secure, and properly stored.

Security concerns: The sensitive nature of dual-use chemicals means that security is a major concern. Building a secure blockchain-based tracking system may require additional security measures, such as encryption or multi-factor authentication.

Technical complexity: Building a dual-use chemical tracking system using blockchain can be technically complex, requiring knowledge of both blockchain technology and the specifics of the chemicals being tracked.

Scalability: Depending on the size of the system and the number of chemicals being tracked, scalability can be a challenge. The system may need to handle a large volume of data and be capable of handling an increasing number of users and transactions.

Cost: Implementing a blockchain-based system can be expensive, requiring investment in hardware, software, and personnel. Depending on the scope of the project, the cost may be a significant challenge.
