Our project helps drivers to stay awake and drive safe. It is a drowsiness detection project whihc gives an alarm buzzer whenever the user (driver) falls asleep.
The problem Drive Assist solves
Several accidents happen due to drivers falling asleep. This project can help people from a variety of professional backgrounds and age groups to stay awake while driving as it will give an alarm whenever the user falls asleep while driving. The app accesses the camera of the user and continuously monitors the eyes of the driver to detect whether the driver is getting drowsy or falling asleep. This project utilises deep learning libraries to detect the state of driver. We have also trained a CNN model for the purpose of drowsiness detection using a small dataset.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was to integrate our CNN model with our android app which unfortunately we were unable to resolve. There were other challenges in importing necessary libraries, GPU unavailability, etc. The android development domain was new for us and hence it was very challenging for us to develop the app and add functionalities to it.
