The problem DMRC Online Forum solves

  • There are various research papers that attempt to understand what the customers need from Delhi Metro, however the reach and scope of such studies is very limited
o Proposing New Services to Delhi Metro: An Exploratory Analysis by Govind Nath Srivastava: Proposes 10 new services to DMRC based on survey based on some 1015 samples collected from various metro stations
o Understanding Preferences of Delhi Metro Users Using Choice-Based Conjoint Analysis by Garvita Bajaj and Pushpendra Singh
  • DMRC does not count passengers by gender, so there is no way of knowing the exact percentage of women ridership, however a post pandemic study estimated it to be atleast 33%
  • Surprisingly, such a hugely successful mass rapid transit system that caters to a daily ridership of about 45 lacs does not even have an online forum of its own
  • I built an online forum exclusively for the DMRC that serves the following purposes:
o Passengers can raise complaints and other people can vote on them if they agree, so that the most pressing issues will gain visibility and DMRC can resolve them on priority, this will bring a lot of transparency in the system and make the higher ups more accountable and responsible, right now there are only helpline numbers and emails available to contact, so public opinions don’t come to light
o DMRC can run its own public opinion polls to understand what the passengers want directly from them
o Based on the issues raised and polls gathered, a data analysis dashboard is built for the DMRC that allows them to understand issues specific to metro stations, demographic and time

Challenges I ran into

This is my first hackathon ever and I encountered SO many problems I could have never imagined!

  • Time management: Spent over 1.5 days trying to build a reddit style online forum, followed so many tutorials, referenced so many Stack Overflow answers and still ended up not being able to deploy it!
  • Time Management: Underestimated just how much time it takes to fill out submission form!
P.S. I have a lot to say, but I don't have the time for it!
