An Extension To Keep You Focused
The problem Diss-Tract solves
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the trend towards online learning, making it more popular than ever. However, while online education offers many benefits, it also presents unique challenges.
One of the biggest challenges is the issue of distractions, which can severely impact productivity and hinder learning outcomes.
The Covid era, without any doubt, has produced the most incompetent students till date. This is a huge statement to make but this is what the truth has been. The main reason being the online exposure.
The internet is a huge ocean of information but it also brings a wide range of distracting elements along it. All of us, here, have experienced this thing that we go over internet to complete our work but we land up doing something else but our designated work. This prevails even after the pandemic as we cannot overlook the positive side of the internet.
In fact, a recent study conducted by the University of California, Irvine found that it takes an average of 23 minutes and 15 seconds to regain focus after being distracted. This means that every time we get sidetracked by a social media notification, a YouTube video, or any other form of distraction, we are losing valuable time that could be spent on learning and producing our best work.
This is where DISSTRACT comes in. DISSTRACT is a comprehensive web extension that offers a solution to all your online distractions. It provides features like website blocking, distraction-free mode, and customized timers, which ensure that you stay focused and productive while working online.
Features which help us to solve this problem are:
Rewarding user by our Own Token to keep him motivated
Blocking Selected Website while users are working
Feature to stop the opening of new tabs to make him ultra focused
Giving a breif data to user about their work
Challenges we ran into
In the journey to create our desired product, we ran into a lot of problems, which is obvious because the more mistakes we do, the more we learn. The first being working under pressure. We had quite less time to work this out. So, there are a few features which did not turned out the way we wanted them to be but we almost made quite all of them.
We created the HUSTLE COINS and its mechanism of transactions but we could not integrate it in time.
Also, the feature of recommendation and the redirection in YouTube could not be put in place though we cracked the way how to do it.
The problem we faced was we couldn't perform browser interaction with smart contract as sepolia testnet didn't allow us to connect to its RPC server..
The greatest of the problems which hindered our journey include the new manifest version 3 on Google as it is not allowing many features to work but we somehow cracked alternate ways which took significant amount of time.
Its structure of the extension was little bit complex as we decided to divide the work but the frontend was not going well with JS.
We made multiple tries for the structure and colors which took 1/4th of our time.
The data management is the soul of our project as it need to track the time and everything rely's on the time. Currently we are using chrome storage and local storage.
At last, we ended up with an excellent product but yes, there was a due time and we had to add some more features but there was a shortage of time but in future we will add some more features in the extension.
