DISHA
Disaster Intelligence System for Human Assistance
The problem DISHA solves
During natural and man-made disasters, people don’t die because alerts don’t exist they die because they don’t know what to do next.
Current disaster response systems suffer from critical gaps:
Alerts are generic, causing mass panic instead of targeted action
People receive no clear evacuation direction after an alert
Static maps fail in smoke, floods, darkness, and panic
Everyone rushes to the same exits and shelters, leading to stampedes and overcrowding
Communication systems break down in low or no internet conditions
As a result:
30–40% of disaster deaths are preventable, caused by panic and poor routing
15–20% fatalities occur due to stampedes, not the disaster itself
Authorities lack real-time visibility and post-disaster accountability
The real challenge is not lack of information, but lack of direction, intelligence, and clarity at the moment it matters most.
Challenges we ran into
Integration
Api deployments
Real-time geo-fencing at scale
Identifying only affected users within a dynamic disaster radius in seconds using live geospatial queries.
Crowd-safe evacuation logic
Designing routing that balances distance, shelter capacity, and congestion to prevent stampedes — not just shortest paths.
Reliable alerts under poor connectivity
Ensuring message delivery during floods/fires where mobile data fails, using multi-channel fallbacks (Voice → Push → SMS).
AR navigation in extreme conditions
Maintaining stable, readable AR guidance in low light, smoke, panic movement, and limited device performance.
Offline-capable routing
Providing usable navigation even with intermittent or no internet using offline OSM/OSRM data.
Synchronizing multiple async systems
Coordinating geospatial detection, AI decisioning, alert dispatch, routing, and AR guidance with strict time constraints.
Panic-proof user experience
Reducing cognitive load to a simple 3-step flow usable by all age groups during high-stress situations.
Scalability during peak disasters
Supporting 10,000+ concurrent users without latency spikes or system failure.
Trust & accountability
Implementing immutable disaster logs to ensure transparency, authority verification, and post-disaster audits.
