Traditional scientific research suffers from opaque contribution tracking, slow and centralized verification, reputation silos, and a lack of incentives for open collaboration. Many researchers do not receive proper credit for their work, as conventional systems prioritize first or senior authors while overlooking other contributors. Verification processes are controlled by centralized entities, making them slow, expensive, and prone to bias. Additionally, researchers struggle to build and carry their reputations across institutions, while contributions beyond traditional publishing, such as peer review and data sharing, often go unrecognized. DeSciRep addresses these challenges by introducing a Web3-powered Proof of Contribution Protocol that authenticates and verifies research contributions on-chain. By issuing Soulbound Tokens (SBTs) as immutable proof of work, DeSciRep ensures fair recognition, builds a decentralized reputation system, and fosters trust, transparency, and incentivized participation in the scientific community.
