The problem DeRelief solves

1️⃣ The Problem It Solves

Indonesia's Donation Crisis

Donation and crowdfunding in Indonesia face critical trust issues that prevent people from giving:

🔴 Lack of Transparency
Traditional donation platforms operate as "black boxes" - donors send money but have no visibility into where funds actually go. There's no way to verify if 100% of donations reach recipients.

🔴 Rampant Fraud
Fake campaigns and imposters regularly exploit disasters and health emergencies. Scammers create lookalike campaigns claiming to help victims, stealing from both donors and real beneficiaries.

🔴 No Accountability
Intermediary organizations are difficult to audit. By the time misuse is discovered, funds have already disappeared through multiple opaque handoffs.

🔴 Poor Coordination
Donors can't see real-time totals or coordinate effectively. Multiple campaigns for the same cause fragment support, while some campaigns are over-funded and others get nothing.

🔴 High Platform Fees
Traditional platforms take 5-10% in fees, reducing the impact of every donation.

How DeRelief Solves This

DeRelief is a fully transparent crowdfunding platform built on Base blockchain using IDRX stablecoin:

  • 💎 100% Onchain Transparency - Every single transaction is permanently recorded on the blockchain. Anyone can verify fund flows using BaseScan.

  • 🔗 Direct Transfers - Donations go directly from donor wallet to verified campaign recipients. No middlemen, no hidden transfers.

  • 📊 Real-time Progress - Live tracking of campaign progress. See exactly how much has been raised and from how many donors in real-time.

  • 💰 Minimal Fees - Base L2 offers near-zero transaction costs (~$0.001), meaning 99.9%+ of donations reach the cause.

  • 🇮🇩 IDRX Integration - Using the Indonesian Rupiah stablecoin makes crypto donations familiar and accessible to local users.

Real Impact

DeRelief brings the power of blockchain to social good:

  • First-time crypto users get a meaningful first transaction (donating to real causes)
  • Disaster response becomes faster with immediate, transparent fund collection
  • Trust returns to the donation ecosystem through cryptographic proof

"Every donation onchain, every aid transparent."

Challenges I ran into

2️⃣ Challenges I Ran Into

Context: DeRelief was built using AI-assisted development ("vibe coding") - I directed AI to build while learning Web3 concepts along the way. This approach came with its own unique challenges.

Challenge 1: Navigating the Web3 Maze from Absolute Zero

Problem: I started this project with zero Web3 experience. My biggest hurdle wasn't just technical; it was the ambiguity of the ecosystem. I was deeply confused by terms like "Mini App"—initially not knowing if I was building a mobile app, a frame, or a standalone site. Furthermore, as a solo builder, I didn't have months to master Solidity syntax from scratch. The barrier to entry felt massive for someone who just wanted to build a transparent donation tool.

How I Overcame It:

  • AI-Led Architecture: Instead of spending weeks on Solidity syntax, I focused on being the "Architect." I directed AI to build the smart contract logic based on my functional requirements, while I focused on verifying the logic and the flow of funds.
  • Concept Translation: I used AI as a "Concept Translator" to help me understand how a standard web application transforms into an ecosystem-ready app on Base.
  • AI-Assisted Integration: I directed the AI to help bridge the complex Web3 pieces—integrating OnchainKit, wagmi, and viem—allowing me to build a professional-grade interface without getting bogged down in boilerplate middleware code.
  • Learning by Verifying: I verified every AI-generated function by testing on Base Sepolia and checking transactions on BaseScan, ensuring the code behaved exactly as intended even without being a Solidity expert.

Outcome: I successfully built and deployed a functional onchain crowdfunding platform on Base Mainnet, moving from absolute confusion to a live product in record time.

Challenge 2: The "100x" Decimal Mystery (IDRX Error)

Problem: During initial testing, I encountered a significant 100x discrepancy in fund reporting. Specifically, a donation of 1,000 IDRX was being recorded and displayed as 100,000 in the total progress. This math error made the crowdfunding data look inflated and inaccurate, which directly undermined the project's goal of absolute transparency.

The Discovery: This was my introduction to how decimals work in smart contracts. Most tokens use 18 decimals, but IDRX uses only 2 decimals. The AI-generated code was fetching the raw value from the blockchain (where 1,000 IDRX is stored as 100,000 base units) but forgot to divide it by 10^2 for the display.

How I Overcame It:

  • Discrepancy Investigation: I spotted a 100x math error during evaluation—1,000 IDRX was being reported as 100,000. I immediately investigated the discrepancy by challenging the default 18-decimal assumptions in the code.
  • Directing the Correction: Once I identified the decimal mismatch, I directed the AI to implement specific scaling logic using parseUnits(amount, 2) and custom division-by-100 formatting tailored for the IDRX token.
  • Validation through Vibe Coding: This experience taught me that effective AI collaboration requires the human to act as a rigorous QA lead, spotting logical inconsistencies that "default" AI assumptions might overlook.

Outcome: I fixed the display bug and gained a deep understanding of how to bridge "Contract Units" with "Human Units"—a crucial skill for any Web3 developer.

Challenge 3: Farcaster Mini-App Integration (Midpoint Blocker)

Problem: Understanding the transition from a standalone web app on Base to a fully integrated Farcaster Mini-App. I am currently navigating the ambiguity of the technical requirements—specifically the farcaster.json manifest and SDK hooks—and debating whether full deployment to the Farcaster ecosystem is a prerequisite for the current Base tracks.

How I Overcame It:

  • [Ongoing]

Outcome:

  • In Progress for Final Submission.
