Challenges I ran into
Challenges I Ran Into
During the development of DeFiGuardian AI , I encountered several significant technical challenges that required creative problem-solving and deep debugging. Here are the main hurdles and how I overcame them:
🚨 Critical Blockchain Infrastructure Challenge
Problem: Anvil Connectivity Issue
The most critical challenge was getting Anvil (local Ethereum node) to work properly in the Docker environment. Anvil was binding to 127.0.0.1:8545 (localhost only), making it completely inaccessible from other containers and external connections.
Multiple Failed Attempts:
- ❌ Used command: > multi-line format - completely ignored by container
- ❌ Tried command: ["anvil", "--host", "0.0.0.0"] - still bound to 127.0.0.1
- ❌ Added --anvil-ip-addr 0.0.0.0 parameter - no effect
- ❌ Various health check configurations - all failing
✅ BREAKTHROUGH SOLUTION:
anvil:
image: ghcr.io/foundry-rs/
foundry:latest
entrypoint: ["anvil", "--host",
"0.0.0.0", "--port", "8545", ...]
# Key: Using 'entrypoint'
instead of 'command' forced
Anvil to accept our parameters
Impact: This fix was the key breakthrough that made the entire development environment functional, enabling proper blockchain integration across all services.
🔧 NextAuth.js Type System Challenges
Problem: Module Import Errors
Encountered persistent TypeScript errors with NextAuth.js v4.24.11:
- "Module 'next-auth' has no exported member 'NextAuthOptions'"
- "Module 'next-auth' has no exported member 'AuthOptions'"
Failed Attempts:
- ❌ Tried importing AuthOptions - doesn't exist in v4
- ❌ Tried importing NextAuthOptions - also doesn't exist
- ❌ Various type annotation approaches
✅ SOLUTION: Removed explicit type annotations and let TypeScript infer the configuration object type:
// Before (problematic)
import NextAuth, {
NextAuthOptions } from 'next-auth'
const authOptions: NextAuthOptions
= { ... }
// After (working)
import NextAuth from 'next-auth'
const authOptions = { ... } //
Type inferred automatically
🏗️ Smart Contract Deployment Complexity
Problem: Cross-Chain Integration
Integrating multiple Chainlink services (Price Feeds, Automation, CCIP, VRF) across different networks presented several challenges:
- Price Feed Configuration: Different networks have different feed addresses
- Contract Dependencies: Complex interdependencies between contracts
- Gas Optimization: Ensuring efficient contract interactions
✅ SOLUTION: Created a comprehensive deployment strategy:
- Modular contract architecture with clear separation of concerns
- Network-specific configuration files
- Automated deployment scripts with validation
- Mock contracts for testing environments
// Example: Robust price feed
configuration
contract ChainlinkFeeds {
mapping(uint256 => mapping
(address => address)) public
priceFeeds;
function
configureFeedsForNetwork
(uint256 chainId) external {
if (chainId == 43113) { //
Avalanche Fuji
priceFeeds[chainId]
[ETH_ADDRESS] =
0x86d67c3D38D2bCeE722E6
01025C25a575021c6EA;
// ... more
configurations
}
}
}
🤖 ElizaOS Integration Challenges
Problem: AI Agent Configuration
Integrating the ElizaOS AI framework with blockchain interactions required:
- Type Safety: Ensuring proper TypeScript integration
- Performance: Managing embedding generation costs
- Testing: Creating comprehensive test suites
✅ SOLUTION:
- Implemented robust configuration validation with Zod schemas
- Added performance optimizations (disabled expensive embedding generation during development)
- Created extensive test coverage with proper mocking
// Performance optimization
if (process.env.NODE_ENV ===
'development') {
logger.debug('🚫 Embedding
generation skipped (disabled
for performance)');
return null;
}
🐛 Frontend Build and Runtime Issues
Problem: ChunkLoadError
Encountered ChunkLoadError indicating missing JavaScript chunks, specifically app/layout.js .
✅ SOLUTION: Cleared Next.js build cache and restarted the development server:
rm -rf .next
npm run dev
Problem: Web3 Integration Complexity
Integrating multiple Web3 libraries (RainbowKit, Wagmi, Viem) with proper TypeScript support.
✅ SOLUTION:
- Created comprehensive Web3 configuration with proper type safety
- Implemented custom hooks for contract interactions
- Added debug utilities for transaction troubleshooting
📊 Database and Backend Challenges
Problem: Service Dependencies
Coordinating multiple services (PostgreSQL, Redis, Backend API) in Docker environment.
✅ SOLUTION:
- Implemented robust health checks for all services
- Created proper startup dependencies with depends_on
- Added comprehensive logging and monitoring
