Decentralized Voting Machine

of the people,by the people, for the people

The problem Decentralized Voting Machine solves

Electoral fraud, sometimes referred to as Fake Votes, is illegal interference with the process of an election, either by increasing the vote share of the favoured candidate, depressing the vote share of the rival candidates, or both. The problem is to build a mechanism using which vote counterfeiting can be avoided and genuine votes are being considered.

The solution is to build a Decentralised application on Blockchain using Ethereum to eliminate the problem of Fake Votes, so that the voting system becomes transparent and unbiased. This is possible by Blockchain where we can keep the vote counts and other electoral data protected. The application would consist of a list of eligible candidates for election and we, as a voter, using our unique account having a unique private key, can cast a single vote to the candidate. This would require some ether, but the "Fake Votes" problem can be eliminated.

Challenges we ran into

When building the application, it was crucial to ensure that the voting process is secure and cannot be manipulated. So we implemented smart contract-based solutions to prevent vote tampering, such as using identity verification methods to prevent multiple voting.
While building the application several challenges were tackled like integrating ganache cli with metamask and writing the logic for the smart contract. Thanks to Remix Online IDE which made our task easy and we were able to perform various eth-blockchain transactions online before integrating the smart contract with our front end, ganache and metamask.
