The problem DeCarbonize solves

Problem Statement

  • Current Carbon Market has platforms that can be used by enterprises to but Carbon Credits and neutralize their excessive carbon footprint
  • We have voluntary carbon markets where individuals who also want to neitralise their carbon emission, can buy carbon credits voluntarily.
  • But there is lack of motivation to voluntarily participate in such act. The need of the hour is not just passively try to neutralise the carbon footprint but to actively reduce the footprint in the first place.

Objective

  • DeCarbonize motivates individuals to actively participlate in carbon market and reduce their carbon emission by rewarding them in a self-sustainable enivironment.

Project Details

  • For every carbon negative act, users get Carbon Coins, tokens equivalent to the amount of carbon emission they prevent.
  • For example, current implementation includes saving fuel by tracking the distance travelled by car every month.
  • We implement a car API that would send the details about the distance travelled every month to the backend server for a specific user.
  • The sebsequest months where travelled distance is reduced, user is reqarded equivalent amount of carbon coins calculating according to the logic that 1 ton carbon = 1000 tokens.
  • Once a user earns a total of 1000 tokens, usesr can use the tokens and create a CarbonCredit NFT that can be listed on NFT marketplace over the internet.
  • This NFT can be bought by passive contributors to the carbon economy who want to neutrwalise their emission.
  • NFT metadata contains all the information about the user carbon negative acts and is publicly visible over network saved on walrus.
  • Buyer can verify and buy the one time sellable NFT thet will be marked as expired once buyer buys it.
  • In this way self sustainable model of the website motivates uses to contribute to the present carbon economy.

Challenges we ran into

  • Integrating third party libraries like lit was time consiming
  • Can't create a car api that can be displayed in the hackathon.

Additional Features

Features can be extented to all the third party companies that give a method to users to reduce their carbon emission from voluntarily selecting "Don't send cutlery" option while ordering food on zomato to planting a tree
