Take Notes and leave a highlight on your brain.
The problem Datum solves
The most important and productive thing to do while learning/researching things on the internet is to take notes. Think of switching tabs/apps for taking notes and it is really annoying.
Taking notes is the most important and vital part of learning. It leaves a highlight on your brain. Think of a Wikipedia page where you are trying to help yourself by finding some important law/rule to understand and maybe remember. In this situation, you copy some lines and change your tab/app to your note-taking app then back to that Wikipedia and repeating the same boring process.
A datum is a tool that helps you take Notes across the web without switching tabs or apps. it is actually a chrome Extension(for now) that helps you take notes on the webpage you find interesting. It really simplifies the process of taking notes.
Value-Props/USPs of Datum:
- Take Notes Across the Web without changing the tab/app.
- Organize Notes according to your convenience.
- Open Source. Users data will be transparent to them.
Challenges I ran into
This was my first experience in creating a Chrome Extension. So initially I was stuck in authenticating a user via chrome extension without that every user would be able to see each other's Notes. After analyzing the problem thoroughly I decided to use firebase and it solved the problem of authenticating. the second problem I faced was Design. I was confused about how many buttons to put on the popup Extension so that it didn't look too clustered. For the MVP I went for the minimalist approach.
