Data Guilds

Empowering the new data economy

The problem Data Guilds solves

The data economy is scattered today. The users and content creators are the major stakeholders in the data economy however most of the stake is taken away by the big players. With the introduction to Data Guilds along with this major issue we bring a platform for people with same interest to preserve the generated data for longer period of time on filecoin using the concept of Data DAO. Data Guilds enables a new kind of data-centric DAO.

Examples of DataGuilds include datasets valuable to humanity at large, like large genomic or research databases, the Wikipedia, research papers, NASA images and more.

Data Guilds are not restricted only towards implementation of DataDAO. It allows each data guild to have their own closed data marketplaces. For example, the Data Guilds marketplaces can be of two types :

  1. Closed NFT like marketplaces
Here the data can be purchased in a form of NFT and complete daat ownership would be transfered to the buyer.
  2. Closed Pay Per Watch marketplaces
Here the user can check out the data by paying some amount to the Data Guild.

The flow :

  1. Admins create a Data Guild
  2. Data proposer who has access to the Data Guild proposes a data to be included in the respective Data Guild.
  3. The Data Guild approves or rejects the proposal
  4. If approved a deal is created with SP and funded by the Data Guild itself - Proposer doesn't spend a penny
  5. Once the deal is activated, the data is listed on the marketplace
  6. The amount earned from marketplace is spilted between the data proposer and the Data Guild fund raisers.

Note : In each of the above step the data remains encrypted using Medusa network so that the data is accessible only to the ones who has the Data Guild membership NFT.

Challenges we ran into

The whole thing was a challenge!
Our agenda was not just to create a platform for Data DAO but also to create a openzeppelin line library for other developers to use so our contracts are heart of our project.
