Daily Dump

Be part of the solution, not the pollution A tie-up can be generated between the Raddiwalas and the recycling units through our app and thereby all the waste generated can be recycled in valuable form

The problem Daily Dump solves

The problem:
“India is turning into one big garbage dump. The problem is assuming gigantic
proportions and the numbers are staggering. Urban India is the world’s 3rd largest
garbage generator and by 2050 waste is expected to rise to 436 million tons up”
says NDTV India.
Another major issue is the overflowing landfills – there is literally no space to
accommodate fresh garbage waste. The whole world faces the menace of
mountains of waste on our planet. Improper waste management has generated
various snags such as environmental degradation, water pollution, soil pollution and
air pollution.
The problem it solves and their benefits:

  • Reduces waste in landfilling areas.
  • Saves valuable time resources, cost and labor.
  • Prevents problem of mutual degradation of mixed waste and thereby
    decreasing the amount of waste.
  • Reduces various kinds of pollutions and numerous diseases.
  • Beneficial and rewarding at an individual level.Profitable for the Raddiwalas and the recycling units
  • Develops a habit of segregating and recycling the waste.Economical, feasible and impactful.
    The Idea-
Today, our landfills are overextended and our waste management infrastructure is overburdened. To combat this, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan was kicked off. We desire to not only contribute to this cause but further it.
The basic idea is that the garbage that is generated at a personal level like homes, offices and other work places can be segregated and sold to the Raddiwalas in exchange of money. And likewise, the Raddiwalas can sell the same waste to the recycling units. This small process can basically recycle our each and every waste into valuable products which can be sold further in exchange of money.
This leads to a situation in which overwhelming portion of the city’s waste never goes to a landfill, infact not only would most of the garbage be recycled, people would willingly participate in such programs as they are getting paid for the thing which is usually thrown away.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges I ran into:
One of the features of our project was that, it requires smartphones to install the app
and since most of the Kabadiwalas don’t own a smartphone, we had to step out of
our houses and personally go to them. It was tough initially, telling the
RADDIWALAS about this idea and making them understand about the adverse
effects of improper waste management and how they could benefit from this project
but eventually they cooperated and gave their insights regarding how they felt about
it.

Another challenge that we faced could be convincing the people to separately store
waste and dry waste. But this could be overcome after a span of time when
segregating and selling waste becomes a part of life.
Limitations:
As we all know all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to work on our
limitations.

  • The process is not always cost-effective (can be overcome when recycling
    becomes a practice.)
  • Connecting everyone through internet and promoting our app.
  • The resultant product has a short life (still its eco-friendly and cheap.)
  • The sites are often dangerous
  • Though waste management creates employment, it only has the ability to
    produce low-quality jobs.
