Crop Safe

decentralized platform offering AI-powered weather insurance for farmers

Why are you participating for Based SEA?

We're developers working remotely from Thailand, and we've spent time talking to many farmers to understand the problems they face. We saw that many farmers struggle because they don't have access to fair and clear financial services, especially for things like crop insurance.

We're participating in Based SEA because we want to use our tech skills to help these farmers. By creating CropSafe, we hope to offer simple and transparent weather insurance to protect their livelihoods. We're excited to bring new technology to our local farming communities and make a real difference in Southeast Asia.

What challenges are you focusing on?

We're tackling several problems in our community with the help of Base:

  1. Unstable incomes for farmers because the weather is unpredictable.
  2. Not enough small loans or insurance options, especially for small farmers who need weather insurance.
  3. Financial services aren't clear or fair, so farmers don't trust them and don't use them much.
  4. Insurance claims take too long or aren't handled fairly.

By using Base Chain and Smart Wallet, we're building a platform that offers fair, easy-to-use weather insurance. It's digital and easy to access, so more farmers can use it. Our goal is to help make farmers' incomes more stable, strengthen farming against challenges, and build trust in financial services in our farming communities. We have deployed our application on Base Mainnet for partical usage.

How does your submission address this challenge?

CropSafe helps solve the problems farmers face with unpredictable weather messing up their income. We offer a decentralized, AI-powered weather insurance platform that's transparent, efficient, and easy to use. We have deployed our application on Base Mainnet.

Key Features of CropSafe:

  1. Easy Sign-Up: Farmers can join easily using Smart Wallet integration.

  2. Smart Risk Assessment: We use AI to figure out risks and calculate premiums fairly.

  3. No Transaction Fees: With Paymaster, transactions are gasless, so there are fewer costs.

  4. Automatic Claims Processing: Claims are handled automatically and fairly using AI and smart contracts.

  5. Full Transparency: Everything happens on the blockchain, so all transactions are open and clear.

  6. Multi-language Support: The platform is available in multiple languages to serve local farming communities effectively.

Potential Impact:

  1. Stable Incomes: By giving quick and fair payouts when bad weather hits, we help keep farmers' incomes steady.

  2. Building Trust: Our transparent system and fair assessments make farmers more likely to trust and use insurance.

  3. Easy Access: The user-friendly design and no fees make it easy for all farmers to use, even if they're in remote areas or not tech-savvy.

  4. Better Farming Data: As more farmers use CropSafe, we gather useful data on weather and crops, which can help improve farming practices.

  5. Boosting Innovation: Showing how blockchain helps in farming can lead to more new ideas and investment in farm tech.

  6. Strong Communities: By protecting farmers from money problems due to bad weather, we help strengthen the whole farming community and local economy.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Integrating AI with Blockchain
Problem: We wanted our AI to help assess risks and process insurance claims automatically. But getting our AI system (which uses the Anthropic AI API) to work smoothly with blockchain smart contracts on the Base chain was tough. The AI and the blockchain speak different "languages," so connecting them wasn't easy.
What We Did: To solve this, we built a backend application that acts like a bridge between the AI and the blockchain. This app helps them communicate securely and efficiently. It makes sure the AI can send and receive information from the blockchain without any issues. Now, they work together seamlessly.

  2. Getting Accurate Weather Data
Problem: Our insurance relies on precise weather data from the exact locations where the farmers are. But finding reliable and local weather data was hard. Without accurate data, we couldn't assess risks properly or handle claims fairly.
What We Did: We teamed up with MeteoSource, a company that provides detailed weather data. They give us accurate and up-to-date information for the areas we need. We also set up a consensus API, which means we cross-check weather data from multiple sources to make sure it's correct. This way, we're confident that our risk assessments and claims processing are based on solid information.

  3. Designing a User-Friendly App
Problem: Many farmers might not be familiar with using complex apps or technology. We needed to make our app simple and easy to use so that farmers wouldn't feel confused or overwhelmed.
What We Did: We looked at other projects that help farmers and got inspired by their designs, colors, and how they organized things. We focused on creating a mobile-friendly website that's straightforward and easy to navigate, especially for people in rural areas with limited internet access. We used clear buttons, simple language, and easy steps so that even someone
